These regions have tremendous mission sending potential to help bring the gospel to unreached peoples, but they currently send only 20% of the world’s cross-cultural missionaries!

When I graduated from seminary, my aunt sent me a gift that quickly became one of my most prized possessions. When the package arrived, I had no idea what it was. Once opened, the box revealed a recognizable leather-bound Bible that once belonged to my granddad. Four years before I received this package, Granddad went to be with the Lord.
During his life, most people knew my granddad as &ldquo;Dr. Trimble.&rdquo; He served his community as a surgeon and family practitioner for many decades. My granddad loved Jesus and sought to tell others about him as often as he could. He used his medical practice as a vehicle to share the gospel with countless patients.&nbsp;
Dr. Trimble also loved to read his Bible and was known to use neon-colored tabs to mark favorite passages. He also loved to write in his Bible with the stereotypically bad penmanship of a doctor. Sometimes he would write things in the margins like, &ldquo;Paul was called to ministry today! Praise the Lord!&rdquo; or &ldquo;Judy and I had a wonderful drive through the canyon this morning.&rdquo; His Bible served as a journal for him before, during or after his daily devotional time. Now it serves as a window into the devotional life of an imperfect man who had faith in a perfect Savior.
I absolutely love seeing what the Lord was doing in Granddad&rsquo;s life as reflected in his well-worn Bible and margin scribblings. I wonder what you and I will leave behind that will influence our children and grandchildren.
If you&rsquo;re like me, you love Bibles, Christian books and journals. Have you ever thought about your grandkids skimming through one of your favorite books years after you're gone? What will they learn about your walk with the Lord based on what they see? Here are some ideas to leave a generational legacy for your kids and grandkids:

Write your testimony. I have my granddad&rsquo;s Bible, but I would give just about anything to have a detailed account of his story. I&rsquo;d love to read about when he first heard the gospel, when he first believed the gospel, and how Jesus shaped his later years. Most parents don&rsquo;t know how valuable their faith stories are. Your kids need your story and so do your grandkids.&nbsp;

Highlight your favorite verses. Consider purchasing a new Bible and embarking on a fresh Bible reading plan. As you walk through your plan, highlight the verses in each chapter that mean the most to you. Make notes in the margins and demonstrate your personality by the way you call attention to certain passages. I&rsquo;ve heard of parents doing this for each of their kids while also including notes specific to each child to give to them when they leave home. God&rsquo;s Word isn&rsquo;t just some ordinary book. Your family will be blessed to see your love for God&rsquo;s truth.&nbsp;

Take care of your books. While Christian books are not on the same level as the Bible, good Christian books will always point to and agree with it. When you&rsquo;re in heaven, will your loved ones know which books you prized the most and will they know why? Your library could help future generations guard against bad doctrine and stir their affection for Christ. Imagine your descendants being inspired by the same books that impacted you! Take notes, highlight, add bookmarks, and curate a collection that will edify those you love most.&nbsp;

Build some playlists. I am not a tech-savvy person. Far from it! However, I can create playlists on Spotify. I&rsquo;ve started to build playlists based on different chapters of my life. One includes my favorite songs from 1990s Christian radio. Another playlist includes favorite worship songs from my youth group days. Another includes hymns that have become favorites in recent years. Still another includes Christian rock music that ministered to me in junior high and high school. We learn so much and remember so much through music. How could God use your music journal to minister to your children and grandchild even after you&rsquo;re gone?

Hopefully, these suggestions spur ideas in your heart and mind. If you aren&rsquo;t an avid reader or don&rsquo;t particularly enjoy music, what might God use in your context to leave a tangible legacy of faith?&nbsp;
Whatever you choose, keep this in mind: your heirlooms, books, journals, and playlists are only as impactful as what you do with your days on earth now. Legacy tools are hollow if your family never saw you live for Jesus. However, a life in love with Christ can create a ripple effect that God can use for his kingdom for years to come!
